Haridwar is the most holy and famous city of the India. Haridwar is among the 7 holy cities of India. Haridwar is Door of Gods (Hari-dwar) and the entrance to heaven, it marks the entry of the holy river Ganges into the plains. It is believed that this was one of the 4th places where the amrit (nectar). So the great Kumbh Mela, is held after every 12 years. From this entrance not only the Himalayas begins, but also people can go to heaven, after having achieved holy salvation.
History
Haridwar has many mythical history connected to it. When Raja Shwetu, performed reparation here Lord Brahma honoured him with a boon, to make a living place at Brahma-Kunda, which was named Brahmapuri after Bramha. Lord Vishnu place his foot at Har-Ki-Pauri, where the sacred Ganges touches the foot of Lord Vishnu all the time and it has been called Haridwar. Historically, all the above-mentioned truth occurred here, during the early ages. In the Middle Ages, the Sanskrit poet Kalidas, poetically and positively described the romantic lives joyfully enjoyed here. this place also lost a heavy damage and plunder between the 14th and 18th century, as Muslims demolished Hindu Temples, plundering the public and burning their homes.
Culture
All the Hindu festivals, are celebrated here with high spirits, Ardh Kumbh, which attracts the many tourist to come here. The Ardh Kumbh is declared every six years. It is said that a holy bath in the river Ganges, during the Kumbh, gives you Moksha. Many people came here and take the holy bath during these holy days. There are Saints, Naga Sadhus, Politicians, actor, and many famous person almost every one is here. The city is overflowing with people.

By air, the nearest airport Jolly Grant is at Dehradoon at 54 km and is connected with flights to Delhi. By Train, Trains connect Haridwar to Delhi, Bombay and other cities enroute.
